I competition shot small bore when I was a kid. Always loved hitting anything I could as far away as I could. I find it funny watching the hunting shows where they talk about you need all of this and that for an accurate gun. Imho all you need is practice with the gun. Any rifle I've shot 400-500 yards was fairly easy to make 2 inch groups with practice.

That is really all you need for hunting and almost any competition shooting. If that guy a few above me really likes the long range should look for silhouette shooting competitions. Incredibly fun and don't need to sink 5K to be competitive..

Still my favorite gun though is a .22. No other gun can you spend 10 bucks shoot all day and have a blast. Not to mention after a day of shooting 30-06's and shotguns your shoulder is almost always gonna be sore. Unless you accidentally shoot yourself in the foot never had that problem!

The long range boys can nail prarrie dogs at 1200 to 1800 yds and yes their guns are pretty expencive, I have stayed in the 500 give or take range myself. And I do have a set of my own offical silhouette on swingers for my 50-70 sharps. Though it has ben a while sence I had it out.

Hey starr! Out here the 6.5 Swede is winning the Military shoots. My favorite is the .264 WIN MAG. I've had several. My current .264 is in a 98 Mauser action. I don't need as much Kentucky elevation as that ole Sharps!

Hi Hardtwist, sounds like some nice shooters you have & for the boys & girls that don't know your out were 500 yds is a close shot.
I think I may be able to find something around hear also that can cut down on all that kentucky elivation if I were to wish to do so but I realy do find the early cartidge guns & muzzelloaders more fun so they are what you will generaly find me shooting.
Have a good friend that is running the gun store in Cabala's in Rapid that realy likes & is into long range shooting if your ever in their and he has the time he will realy twist your ear. But pay attechen as he is old enough to have some learning to give.

I own a GLOCK .357 sig Model 23. Absolutely love the Kimber .45 stainless steel with custom grips. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Would like to get a Beretta 9mm more comfortable grip then the Glock. And I hate the block sites on the Glock. Other then that nice gun.

I also like to hunt as as a chick, best two rifles for me is 30-30, and the No $ value British 303. Great rifles for heavy brush and for women.

Just my opinion. Oh and the Desert Eagle is pretty, but hate the price tag and the thing weighs a TON,has horrible kick (even with compensator).

There's a closet full of 12 gauges, singles, dbls, pumps, semis and 1 bolt.
But the one gun that fits me like a glove is my Marlin 45-70 Cowboy Edition. I swapped in fiber-optic front site and a peep rear. I can sight in alot quicker now in early morning/evening light.

Always fun to read these, some people remind me of the deer camp comedy song talking about 30-06-50 cal- 28 gauge- side by side -over under- laser guided deer rifle with a scope... or something crazy like that, have to listen to it again. But all that said, depending on what I am doing my preferences are my Springfield Arms .40 cal xdm daily carry, Taurus .357 magnum revolver with 2inch barrel I keep shot shells in for snakes while exploring, and my sks rifle just for plinking fun. I never been able to hit anything using a scope, just cant get my eyes to work with one, and my Dad uncles, and brothers all tried to help but it was no use. I simply do better with open sights.

I kinda like the inlines for ease of use and quickness. I like the Remington 700s although a lot o people seem to hate them. I thought it was a good modern take on a old concept but they only made them about 8 years so nobody else did apparently. Kinda like when they made the 5MM thinking that would be the next best thing.

Well this little .30 M1 Carbine is a fun one to shoot.

So is this lever action Marlin 1895 .45-70 Govt.

So is this Mod 67-1 4 inch Smith & Wesson .38 Special.

This little Sig is a good gun, it conceals easily, though I still like the trigger on my Glock Better.

Do not have a photo up for it. I love to shoot my black powder revolvers. Namely a brass framed Navy .36 with Goex FFF and some cornmeal filler.

I absolutely loved my Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum. I carried it for years when I worked security detail. Wish I'd never sold it, ugh.

My all time favorite gun, though, is my Remington Nylon 66. It's a joy to shoot, and is accurate enough to knock the eye off a fly at 50 yards.

(I love my Mossberg 500 and my Savage Axis .30-06, too, but they don't have quite the same sentimental value as my old .22LR.)

Stainless steer bolt action weatherby, 7mm with synth. Stock, folding tripod, military sling, with variable scope with see thru mount. Then a Remington 3.5 choke shotgun with Turkey choke added. Marlin bolt action .22 Winchester mag. Stainless steel like then weatherby set up. And CCI hollow points. It will vaporize soda cans and do serious damage to pumpkins. Same set up with a .223 as a throw in. This will kill anything in hunting

Colt 45 ACP - if you have one with a trigger that breaks like a glass rod there is nothing better.

Savage 223 axis bolt action. Had trigger reworked and it's deadly on the wild hogs on my parents ranch.

Taurus judge. =) I don't leave home without it. The wider, more rounded grip fits perfectly, it makes just enough noise and kick to be good for stress relief at the range, and i have no doubt that if it ever comes out for a more serious purpose, the problem will be solved before my 5 rounds are spent!

For plinking and small game hunting, I gotta go with my 50 year old Remington Nylon 66. It's the first gun I ever shot, and still looks like new...plus it's really damn accurate & reliable.

For long-range shooting and big game hunting, I love my Savage Axis XP chambered in '30-06. The gun itself is a joy to shoot, and capable of sub-MOA. The Bushnell scope it came with, however, is meh at best; eventually I'm gonna get a Nikon BDC, and put the Bushnell on my .22.

For home defense, making big damn holes & lots of noise, and all-purpose fun, I love my Mossberg 500. I rarely use it to hunt, though, as I hate picking shot out of my food.

As far as handguns go, my absolute favorite was my old Ruger Security Six- 4" bbl in .357 Magnum. I carried it for years as my duty weapon, and to this day am sick that I ever sold it. I'm a revolver fan and don't care much for semi-autos.

Pretty much every gun I own is my favorite!

Ditto on the savage axis 223 - mine was 378 out the door with tax. Am using for wild hogs and deer. Scope ok for my use everything pretty much less than 150 yards. 223 with proper bullet selection and shot placement is sufficient for the small whitetail deer in this part Texas.

Trigger pull horrible on my gun. 9 pounds!!!! Had gunsmith cut spring and polish the trigger a bit. Now breaks very clean at about 3 1/2 pounds.Perfect for my hunting use.

And wild hogs are a blast to shoot.
