No pheasants around here, there are some in western Oklahoma. I use to hunt them but have not in years, because the numbers are low. I love quail hunting around here but the numbers have been low too. It does look better this year and I think I will go. I use 20gauge on quail, 12 on pheasant, we use to use 16gauge for either quail or pheasant but shells are expensive and hard to find.

We don't have pheasant here in Florida ?? I wish we did. We used to have any plenty of quail. When I was growing up I fed our family with quail, rabbits, and squirrel. We still have plenty of squirrel but no quail and very few rabbit. The red ants aka(fire ants) and the wild house cats along with the Chang in farming habits made the quail a thing of the past in north west Florida when I was growing up I never even saw a deer until I was 20+ in this area and in the last 15 years the deer population has exploded.I had to put up a 10 ft fence around my five ac garden just to keep the deer out

Pheasant numbers got very low around me ten years ago so I have ben raising pheasants & quail the last 7 years and placing groups of 10 to 30 around my county also put land in the government Idle acker program and sometimes would put over 100 their mostly I would put out hens, it has made a big difference and hunting is back again. One person can make a bigger differace than any of the State programs But they jump in and take the credit all tolled I put out over 1800 hens & 400 roosters & a 1000 quail.

Anything that the government puts there hands in turns to shit ?? .you are correct about one good person can do more good at a small fraction of the price ?? .most of the time they spend more on feasibility studies than trying to fix the problems.

Too much loss of habitat here, the population I believe peaked in the 1940's-50's. I am guessing that anyone with enough land to support them strictly controls access to it.

The state stocks them for hunting here at some local public hunting areas, I am guessing that most don't survive hunting season.

No pheasant or quail? So they legalized dove hunting! They should have just allowed hunting on Cleveland's public square for pigeons.

Talked to three hunters this morning that had one bird and no dog, said he praticaly steped on the bird he did get. Cover is heavy and it is hard walking through it. the hunters with dogs do far better.

Had as many as 21 grown birds feeding on my Alaska property in the past but have not seen one bird in the last two years

I get most of mine with a 22 nitro pellet gun...Quiet and works very well on pheasants and the rabbits up there.

That's "assuming" that I am the 67 year old, truth telling woman that my profile reveals AND that I am the only person posting with this profile, right?
